What matters?

Hi guys, I am so sorry that it has been so long since I have been on here! Moving from the Midwest to the Southeast and then over to the West has been quite the challenging last 24 WEEKS! Add in my mother passing out and damaging her head and back along the way and you have full on chaos! We have definitely adopted the mantra of "I'm fine, we're fine, it's all fine!" HA!

However, in the midst of all of the change, my family and I have gained a extremely frustrating crazy cool new outlook on life lately. It all started a few years ago when I started to dive deep into the world of natural remedies for the sake of our families health and wellness. That branched out to gardening to provide more organic foods and so on. Fast forward to the last few weeks... Zac Efron and his buddy launched the "Down to Earth" series on Netflix. I know most of you ladies watched because of his abs, but let's just be honest, my husband has Zac beat any day of the week!! Seriously, if I had an ab picture I would post it!!

Okay, okay, back on track. So the series was literally tantalizing to me. I couldn't stop watching. The things they were unearthing, the way other cultures live, the movements that are being set in place by other countries in order to do better is flat out AMAZING, and super frustrating as an American. I kept (keep) asking myself... why aren't we doing more?

Next up I watched a fascinating movie called "The Need to Grow." Holy cow... or plants! It is by far one of the most informative movies on what our agriculture is doing to our country I have ever seen. These are current movies, current real life issues, current things that effect you and your family!! WAKE UP PEOPLE!! Start caring about what is going on around you!!

Removing myself from my high-horse...

Now, I say all of that to say this. Our lives matter. I don't care what color you are, I don't care what nationality you are, where your mama came from, what brand of cereal you like, etc. I CARE ABOUT YOU! I CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING!

My next question for myself was ,"What can I do?"

Here's what I have come up with so far:

  1. Seed collecting - Y'all, I always buy organic seeds in the packets like everyone else, but after watching that "The Need to Grow" movie I took notice of how important it is to save the seeds from the organic produce I buy at the store as well. Check out the picture I posted. That is from ONE day at my house. We had bell peppers and fruit salad as a portion of our meals and these are the seeds from JUST that. Can you imagine if I saved seeds from all of the things that I have to buy AND from all of the things that we grow? Can you imagine what would happen if I planted all of those seeds? No hungry homeless people in my community? No children needing for more fruits and vegetables? Imagine what would happen if just my neighbors on all sides did the same... and then their neighbors... I think I proved my point.

  2. Recycling/Composting are pretty much of the utmost importance (seriously) - I am not going to take the time to rehash all that I have learned in the last few weeks about these two things, but just trust me. You are literally helping to save the planet, save your health and the health of those around you, and provide the matter that your garden NEEDS to be strong, healthy, and naturally fit off pests so that ZERO chemicals are needed. Let that sink in.

  3. Make movement - Take what I know and am learning and apply it! Currently researching all things recycling in my area, because clearly they SUCK at it. Taking note of a community garden that seems to be struggling and finding out why. Reaching out about a greenhouse for homeschool students here in our neighborhood. THESE ARE THE FIRST STEPS..FIRST...

Matthew 17:20 says this:

"Jesus said, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith like a grain of

mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move.

Nothing will be impossible for you."

Umm, okay! Noted! Let's do something... anything... to move in the right direction for our planet, our families, and ourselves! Nothing it too small here... but I promise, one small step will make you desire another step, and another, and another!

*** I have no affiliation with these shows/films, just sharing awesome info here!***
